How should I plant my rhododendrons?

(Survey: Planting tips for rhododendrons )

First of all, choose an adequate site for your rhododendron and prepare the soil. Dig a hole of approximately 40 to 50cm deep (exact depth depends of the dimension of the ball of earth around the roots; at least 30 cm wider than the ball of earth). Fill the hole with a mixture of high-quality peat and heather soil mixed with gritty sand. Now plant your rhododendron on the same level as the surrounding soil. - Have you bought a rhododendron in a pot, submerge the ball of earth in a bucket of water until there are no more air bubbles. Remove the pot and loosen the ball of earth, so that your rhododendron is able to root quite easily. - Have you bought a rhododendron without a pot, check whether the ball of earth is humid enough. After planting the rhododendron, you can gently tread down the soil. Do not forget to give your rhododendron enough water during dry periods, especially in the first few seasons.
